Service Overview

When a bone is broken (or fractured), it needs to be moved back into position and stabilized.

A fracture fixation can be either operative or non-operative.

  • Non-operative – Splints and casts are used to temporarily immobilize the injury and allow the body to heal it.
  • Operative– Surgery is performed to align and stabilize the fractured bones with implants to allow for healing.

Description

A joint dislocation is a complete separation of 2 articulating bony surfaces, often caused by a sudden impact to the joint.

Common joint dislocation includes the shoulder, finger, patella, elbow, and hip.

Treatment is usually closed reduction, as soon as possible, to decrease potential complications, including soft tissue injury, articular surface injury, and neurovascular compromise.
